SWALE CHRISTIANS AGAINST POVERTY DEBT CENTRE

DEC 18 NEWS

Our priority at the moment is seeking the two Debt Coaches that the Queenborough Fisheries Trust has generously agreed to fund for the next year. Those that may be interested in filling this worthwhile role can either speak to Ruth or myself or visit the link below for a job description. These positions are vital if we are to expand and help as many people in need as possible.

The monthly CAP Awareness evenings are continuing with the next being held at The Holy Trinity Church Sittingbourne on the 28th Nov. at 19.30. All are very welcome to come along and get to know us and find out about the work being carried out and also join us in prayer for the ministry. These meetings will recommence in Jan. 2019. As planned for the New Year we shall be holding these on the Island as well and Sheppey Evangelical Church has kindly agreed to host the first one ( date to be confirmed ). Also we would like to thank Maggie Macktelow and Lillian Pink for their invitations to the Churches together in Sheppey Meetings. Always a pleasure to hear numerous churches sharing news and event information in cooperation with each other.

Our CAP Coffee Mornings are still running at Phoenix House in Central Ave from 10 -12 on Tuesday 27th Nov. & 11th Dec. As usual all are welcome to drop in for a cuppa and a chat. We plan to open similar events on the Island in the New Year once the team has been formed over there.
The Swale Debt Centre has an entry at the Christmas Tree Festival at St.Bartholomew’s Church in Bobbing from the 7th to the 9th Dec. Please show your support by popping in to this.

The expansion plans in Swale are processing:-

On the 14th we attended the Cornerstone Café at St. Mary’s Church in Newington. The 18th saw us do a CAP talk at St. John the Baptist in Bredgar (one of a group of 6 Anglican Churches in SW Swale). Also Ruth has her first client in Faversham and we will hopefully follow this up with their Churches together in Faversham Group soon.

We have been attending the Sheppey Community Forum set up earlier this year through the Oasis Academy on the Island. It’s a privilege to be asked to join this team which plans to benefit the Island by creating clear goals on how the various groups come work together to achieve this.
Please note that on the 13th Jan. 2019 the BBC’s Songs of Praise programme will be dedicated to the Island’s community under the title of “ Love thy Neighbour “.

I would like to repeat that the vision we have for the CAP work in Swale is massive and it will take considerable work and commitment from many people to achieve but I sincerely believe it is possible and will happen according His plan. Once again I invite any individual or church who wants to help to bring this vision into reality to contact me.
